SHOOTING A STILL LIFE STORY FOR CROWN PAINTS

So here's my still life story of a selection of colours from the Crown Paint Feature wall range. The range is all about being bold and making a statement so of course this was right up my street!

A CUP OF TEA WITH: LUCY GOUGH, INTERIOR STYLIST

Now I've been in the interior styling 'industry' for a year or so (not that it feels like I'm really part of that gang yet), I kept hearing the same name coming up over and over again: Lucy Gough. Lucy is not only the hottest, most desired interior stylist right now, but she has been styling for some of the most reputable publications and brands in the interiors industry. Among that, she was my competition in the 2015 Amara Interior Blog awards for best Interior designer / stylist blog - an award that I graciously lost to her, a very bloody deserving winner if you ask me!

After we got chatting over email I thought she would be a great person to interview for the blog. I knew that Lucy would have some valuable nuggets of info for me and any other aspiring interior stylists out there. I wasn't wrong!

I love creating imagery. Everything from the pieces used to the lighting the the photo itself. Yea I'm an interior stylist but I'm really delving more and more into the world of photography and overall creative direction too, so I love when I get asked by brands to use their own products and create whatever I fancy. I recently worked with furniture and homewares company Lee Longlands to style and shoot some images for their instagram feed, something which is becoming more and more popular as social media rises up and influences our shopping habits! Here's a little look at the pics I created.

A CUP OF TEA WITH: SOPHIE ROBINSON, INTERIOR STYLIST AND PRESENTER

When the Great Interior Design Challenge first appeared on our screens I was transfixed. All of the bubbling in my head about moving into a career in interiors all came to a very sharp point of realness - I needed to do this as my job. And I need to quit my current job! 2 years later I'm here. Working as a stylist (albeit at the very start of the journey) and meeting new and exciting people all the time.

I met Sophie in person at the Amara Interior Blog awards as she was presenting, and we got to chat a little after the ceremony and connected fast as two creative women with crazy kids to keep us busy most of the time! I knew that Sophie would have so much insight to the world of being an interior stylist and being a 'working mum' (cringy term, why don't we ever hear about working dads?!), so I sat down with her to chat all things interiors.

WHY SIGNING UP FOR AN INTERIOR DESIGN DIPLOMA WAS A BIG MISTAKE

This post has been a long time coming and to be honest I've felt very concerned about putting it out there in the public realm due to how it could be perceived, but I do really need to be truthful and honest to the people who send me many, many emails every week and ask me if doing an interior design diploma is a good idea if you want to become an interior designer or interior stylist. Because the answer isn't as simple as you might think. Here's the full story, warts and all, about my experience of doing an interior design diploma (and why I subsequently gave it up).

If you watched the first episode of Kirstie's handmade christmas this year then you will see I took part in the annual christmas tree decorating competition, which was a huge honour and something that was so fun and exciting to do! Of course I wanted to be rebellious and buck the traditional tree, so I bring the world my punk barbie christmas tree and the #alternativexmas...
