Recently here in the UK it was Mother’s Day, and to do something a little bit different, me and my husband, brother, sister and her boyfriend decided to makeover my mum’s bedroom for her as a gift. She had been banging on about it being old and boring, so we swooped in, 60 min makeover style and freshened up the room!Read More
Hey! Like me, you might not be someone who's super into christmas. Of course I love the getting together of family and sharing happiness but I can find the decor side of things a little bit too 'nice'. So this year, when I was invited to join Kirstie Allsop on her Handmade Christmas show on channel 4 I decided to bring you all something of a punk take on the traditional xmas. I've also recreated that tree at home with a bunch more decorations - on the show we had to hand make everything so tinsel and gold baubles were out of the picture).
Hopefully you'll find this tree serves as a little bit of inspiration for your own Alternative Xmas movement!Read More
Let me tell you, I have been looking for months to find the right kind of light fixture for our bedroom. It needed to spread a lot of light, ideally upwards, have a retro look, not cost the earth... and of course be gold. I also wanted to spend less than £100. I know, who am I kidding right?! I don't ask for much. But low and behold, when Homebase got in touch and asked if I wanted some vouchers to try out some of their products, by George. - I flippin' cracked it. All thanks to a little thing called gold spray paint...Read More
A couple of weeks ago I showed you my very first finished client room, a teen bedroom. I got so many comments about the personalised trinket boxes that I made for her, so I thought I'd share the super easy step by step method to create the same for yourself. Or for your BFF. Or your grandma. Or your neighbour... you get the picture! Oh and did I mention this costs less than £15?!Read More
I'm utterly obsessed with Franz Kline. There is something about his work that's so effortless and raw. Not to mention that the black and white palette and abstract style seems to be more in fashion now than ever. I've often thought about creating my own take on a Kline piece for my home but was always a bit scared to do it incase it went wrong! This afternoon, while playing around with my daughter and some cheap poster paints, I struck gold. Here's how you can achieve the same for just a few pounds!Read More
We moved into our flat just over a year ago. It was a real fixer-upper, with no proper flooring, magnolia splashed walls and an extremely old bathroom and kitchen. As soon as we got the keys we set about starting work, which was mostly decorating after the Kitchen and bathroom had been done. We wore really cool overalls like in the picture above and pretended we were out of Breaking Bad. Unfortunately, because we hadn't really had loads of experience decorating (apart from the odd bedroom as a kid, and I'm sure I wasn't that helpful!) we ended up doing things in the wrong order and sometimes 2 or 3 times before it was right. Here's my list of what we did wrong and how to do it right, so that you won't make the same mistakes that we did!Read More
I've been feeling really frustrated recently. I'm loving this blog and being able to share my visions and style with you guys, and it's even better to hear and be told that you're enjoying it! But I really want to share my own photos of my own styling and room designs, not other people's, and I've been getting frustrated because something is holding me back from being able to show it to you.Read More
I've had a little idea brewing in the back of my mind. I constantly want soft furnishings that I just can't find anywhere. Or I find the sort of thing I want but it's not quite right. Or it is right and it's far too expensive. Wouldn't it be awesome if like, I could just make this stuff myself?Read More
When we bought our 1930s Art Deco flat, the whole place was in need of a renovation. Nothing structural, but the flat was a bit of a shell. It didn't have any carpets or flooring, but it did have a nasty old bathroom and kitchen. Fancy seeing what we did to upgrade the kitchen on a pretty non-existent budget?Read More
Monochrome is HUGE at the moment! For me it's the easiest and most classy way to update an interior.
Now I know this one doesn't have my usual dash of antiques and vintage inspired influences but there was something about the inspiration image that I loved. I could see it working really easily in any home so get ready to throw away all of your colours and go black and white EVRRRYTHAAANG Kim and Kanye style. We call this one Mod/Mono (it's modern monochrome in a cool abbreviated way ok?).Read More
