A NIGHT AT THE MONDRIAN HOTEL
I think once you have kids it's really easy to forget what your relationship is about. You get caught up in the day to day hectic nature of getting your child dressed, fed, off to nursery or whatever and can be so exhausted by the end of the day that you forget to get those quality moments in with just the two of you. So last weekend hubby and I decided we needed a little child free time to reconnect, and we chose to do that at the Mondrian hotel on London's Southbank. Because, basically, it looks really fucking sexy.
In my humble opinion the Mondrian is one of the best hotels decor wise in London right now. Designed by Tom Dixon's Design Research Studio you can find cruise liner inspired influences everywhere you look, from the huge copper-clad hull like lobby...
and the liner like hallways...
to the built in cabin-esque room furniture.
We got a standard room and though small, the room was still incredibly put together. I especially loved the attention to detail on the hardware. The bed itself was super comfortable and I love that you get complimentary Malin and Goetz toiletries (of course they went straight into my bag when I left, duh).

Downstairs, the popular Dandelyan Bar is stunning - forest green walls and marshmallow pink leather sit together so well, and the Art Deco style mirrors and brass stair banisters add a bit of glam.
The glam is continued in the new pop up bar area in the lobby (whilst the Rumpus Room is undergoing a renovation).
The Mondrian is a short walk from the hustle and bustle of Southbank and Blackfriars, so even just walking around is fun. We spent the day checking out the new pieces at the Tate Modern and then took a short walk back to the hotel to get ready for the evening. The illuminated mirrors gave me a great chance to get glammed up for dinner at Brasserie Zedel (I'll have to write a separate post on this place as it was so fab).
Come Sunday we were given a complimentary late check out of 2pm which seems to be the standard Sunday rule there. After grabbing eggs benny at the local Albion we came back to the Mondrian. We debated about getting treatments in their beautiful spa, but opted instead for a lazy morning of reading magazines and drinking tea in the lounge area... something we NEVER get to do uninterrupted anymore! It was absolute bliss.
I loved our time away together, even just walking around getting on the tube and checking out art was made that much more special because we got to focus solely on each other. I think we will have to do that more often from now on!
Our standard room at the Mondrian was around £200 after VAT. Your room fee also gives you free access to the spa. The fee doesn't include breakfast, which is about another £25 per head.
