A BIT OF BRITPOP DECOR FUN AT THE NEW CITIZEN M HOTEL
I often get asked where I find design inspiration in London and my favourite places are actually hotels and restaurants. They're usually more 'out there with their decor and I always go away with some fun new ideas. A couple of weeks ago, on a warm summer evening, hubby and I were asked to go along to stay at the Citizen M hotel in Tower Bridge to see what we thought.
Citizen M are champions of the affordable luxury vibe and are providing space savvy accommodation to cities around the globe, including London, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Glasgow, New York and Paris.
The decor at the hotel is very 90s Britpop - think primary colours, blown up images of Robbie Williams, lots of union Jacks and a lot of fun! This isn't stuffy or snobby design at all, so it's super welcoming and accessible to everyone from tired tourists to cool Londoners who fancy a little break in the capital.
At first entering the hotel you come into the lounge, full of hang out chairs and a library feel.
Every area has floor to ceiling high bookcases adorned with little bits of art and objects.
Loved this pop art style artwork!
In the rooms themselves so much is packed into a small space and the pop art theme is continued. Plus, what a view!
I always notice that hotels have these textured walls, I asked one of my fellow bloggers about this and she said it's because it's really hard wearing - little fact there for ya!
Every room has smart technology, meaning you can control the light of the LED lights, the music and the blinds with an iPad provided in each room.
After dumping our stuff down in our room it was time to head up to their 'Socety M' bar.
The bar has spectacular views across London, really worth a visit for that alone!
And probably my favourite design element of all was this Seletti x Toilet Paper rug that had been hung as a mural... I've been after one of their rugs for ages, so cool!
Loved this view! It was even better once the sun went down and Tower Bridge was illuminated.
Overall the Citizen M is a really fun place to spend a couple of nights in London, the rooms are on the small side so I can't imagine you'd want to stay for weeks on end but for someone who's making their way around the various parts of London it would be perfect. They've really tried to create a 'living room' vibe and I have to say I think they have achieved it... don't all Londoners have giant images of Robbie Williams with a sequinned Union Jack thong on their walls?!
*I was given a complimentary night's stay at the Citizen M in return for my review*
