MY ALTERNATIVE CHRISTMAS TREE
Alright peeps! In my eyes, traditional styling is boring, so every year I aim to create a new alternative Christmas tree full of handmade baubles and decorations. Well, handmade is probably a stretch... hand decorated?! The good folks over at Swiftcover asked me to share some xmas #swifthomehacks so what better than to do another alternative christmas tree for 2017?
Now you may remember my tree from last year that appeared on Kirstie's handmade xmas - it included neon spray painted cars and Keith Haring inspired graffiti barbies as baubles.
So what have I done for xmas this year you may wonder... I'll reveal all in a minute.
I've actually teamed up on a huge UK interiors bloggers 'blog hop' so that you can not only see my tree but how 22 other cool bloggers have done their decor too. The host is Kimberley from Swoon Worthy (literally my fave interiors blog of all time). So I'm in good company. Thankyou to anyone visiting from Lucy Loves Ya!
Anyway... wait no longer!
Here's the big reveal!
Firstly, we gotta talk about this tree. COS THE TREE IS PINK YO.
The kind folks over at Treetopia gifted me this one, and how bloody kitsch fabulous is it?! It comes with the lights already attached which makes for super quick decorating.
Here's a little shot of it naked, oooh er.
I couldn't wait to get started decorating this fine ass of a tree, so I started first, with pom poms. Because, where else?
POM POM BAUBLES
Believe it or not, pom poms are actually super easy to make, especially if you head to hobbycraft and pick up some pom pom makers. They also have the gold elastic cord, wool and everything else you need to make them so it's just one place to stop off at (which when you're running around getting ready for xmas is a lifesaver).
If you read the the end I've got a full video of all of the decorations with a pom pom making tutorial so make sure you watch that!
THE INSTAX ORNAMENTS
I still wanted the tree to have a bit of a traditional vibe, but obviously I wanted to do that in a new way, so there was nothing better than using a Fujifilm instax camera to get some snaps of my fam and friends being all christmassy.
I then easily turned them into baubles using the same gold cord and a little hole punch, again both available at the fab Hobbycraft.
THE NON BORING STAG HEAD
I attached it to the wall in about 3 mins flat using command strips, which will peel off clean without leaving any residue which is perfect for Christmas decorations. If you don't have these in your kit at home then you're missing a trick!
Don't forget the fairy lights!
THE NEON WREATH
Neon and lighting is starting to become my trademark in my various creative projects like the installation I created for Habitat and two new Christmas windows I created for brands (which I'll be revealing soon). So it was only right to call up my homie Gigi over at Bag & Bones and request a little neon heart to create a very special kind of wreath.
I put it inside of another Hobbycraft find, a heart shaped artificial wreath.
Again, I stuck the neon to the wall using clear command strips - see, told you they come in handy for everything!
Here's the final decorated tree in all its glory!
Remember earlier I mentioned a video all about how I put this together, well here it is! Jason and Marley give me a hand too...
I really hope this has inspired you to get a little bit alternative with your Christmas tree and decorations this year! Because if there's one time of year that you can be totally tacky and kitsch in the coolest way possible, then it's Christmas!
Pssssst! don't forget to insure all that beautiful booty you're gonna collect at Christmas with the help of the good folks over at Swiftcover.
Now make sure you head over to Mademoiselle Poirot for the next post in the BLOG HOP!
Today sees the following bloggers also share their xmas decor...
