8 THINGS THAT ARE WORTH BUYING IN THE JANUARY SALES
Hi guys! Hope you're all enjoying the New Year and you're full of fresh ideas and excitement for the future. One thing I do love about this time of year (alongside the sweet smell of optimism) is that it's a great time to save money on some purchases that you would normally make at full price. BUT. Saying that, it can be a time to be drawn in by promises of savings and compulsive purchases that are actually totally pointless. So as my latest #swifthomehack for switftcover I've put together a little guide to have you enjoying your savings rather than regretting your splurges.
Here are 8 things that you can get a fab deal on in Jan!
1. things you've had your eye on already
The worst thing you can do come sales time is start buying stuff that you didn't even think about before the sales. i.e shoes you don't need, a dress for an occasional that will never arise or that new gadget that you just HAVE to have. Think back to what you needed before the sales came along. I tend to make saved shopping lists on these sites and then periodically check back to see if those items have now gone into the sale.
2. Things that are practical
I know that the glitzy items are more fun and make you feel good about yourself but nothing feels as good as when your day to day life is made easier by having purchased something practical. I also like to think of things that have good value to wear / use. So if I buy a great winter parka that's a bit pricey, I can happily justify it to myself if I'm going to wear or use it often. I have cool vases that were £20 that might have seemed like a bargain at the time but based on the fact that I have used them all of a total of 2 times doesn't make them a very good investment.
3. Things that will last a long time
The last point leads me nicely here. Sometimes the cheap stuff actually ends up being worth less than the expensive pieces. Most of the time, the more expensive stuff actually holds its quality for longer and therefore over time becomes a better investment. Also there is a second note to the point - usually when things are quality or expensive we treat them better, with more respect and actually value the product. I'm all about having stuff AS LONG AS it has merit and isn't just something you acquired because it was cheap and on sale.
4. Things that are stupidly cheap because of the season
Here's the exception to the rule above! There will be certain items that suddenly become very cheap that ARE worth buying. What springs to mind is Christmas decorations. Because the mass need for these completely shrinks they are often completely slashed in price and here comes the time to grab an amazing bargain in preparation for the next year. Ok it might seem like a bit of a saddo thing to do but no-one will be laughing when your future xmas tree is pimpin'.
5. Things that enable you to see the world
One thing that I always think is worth spending money on is a chance to see the world and experience new cultures. Travel is one of the greatest ways we can enrich ourselves and January is a great time to grab a bargain. You'll often find flights on sale and if you're looking to actually travel in January then a lot of hotels will be on sale as it can be an off season, especially in the UK.
6. Things to eat
All those party food platters will now be overstock for the large supermarkets so you'll find some awesome deals on breaded prawns, brie and cranberry puffs or whatever else, so you can continue the xmas swag straight into the new year! Also you might find if you order your food online that supermarkets will be sending out voucher codes in an attempt to get you to put an order in instead of eating up all your xmas leftovers.
7. Things that can become gifts
Instead of making the sale season all about you why not think about who out of your loved ones or friends have a birthday coming up? You might just see something in the sale that's a perfect gift for them and you'll get to save money on it. Which means you have an extra bit of money to buy them a birthday cocktail too ;)
I hope that's given you some easy ways to make smart savings this sales period and not just end up in compulsive binge mode, with a bunch of stuff you'll probably never wear or use!
