What I'm Working On!

It took a lot for me to actually sit down and write this at the moment. Can't believe I haven't blogged for over a week! I know to some people that probably doesn't matter but I like to stay consistent. I feel like it's the key to a lot of successes so it annoys me that I have let the blog slip this past week. It's such a cliche but I've been so busy! Of course I have had the odd hour or two to myself but my brain has been so switched on that the last thing I felt like doing was opening up the laptop to write a blog post about what I was doing. This post comes at the end of what feels like my first proper day off in ages. Not a day off where I sit and reply to emails, but one where I actually do nothing. I mean, yeah I answered a few emails but spent the majority of the day watching Jersey Shore and Kardashians. I just needed to switch off and do something that required absolutely no brainpower.
Let me tell you a bit about what I've been working on.
Journeys
Journeys is an idea that Croydon council had a while back to run some sort of youth activities in Croydon. It seemed like they couldn't find the funding to actually put it on but low and behold, after the riots things to help young people and the funding for them seems to have eased (at least in Croydon - we were badly affected by the riots). I and another girl I work with on another youth project decided to pitch for the budget to run the creative strand of journeys - and long story short, we got it!
I am now the project manager of the creative strand of a huge network of creative workshops for young people that run until June, and hopefully thereafter. I'm in charge of everything, from recruiting tutors that I know are great with young people, to having input on flyer design and buying equipment. It's a great but HUGE project and I may have underestimated the work that went along with it. However I love that I am responsible for the first youth workshops in Croydon for a long time, and I love that I am helping engage young people in the borough.
Being a project manager is never easy, there are constant budgets to look over, logistics to plan, things that will inevitably go wrong... etc etc.. which is why it requires a lot of brain power! The tutors and youth workers i liaise with also don't know that I run a lot of other projects so they expect me to be on call 24/7. This is all part of the job though and hopefully it will lead to some more adventurous and lucrative opportunities for me and the young people who take part.
Revolver
Offender is a new film in production from Revolver, the makers of Anuvahood, Adulthood, Shank and Sket (the soundtrack to which I put together). After my role as music supervisor on Sket, I must have done something right as I have been asked back, this time as associate producer on Offender. My role currently was to bridge the gap between film and music, bringing some musicians to the big screen. I was sort of the 'middleman' between a lot of musicians I have contact with and Revolver, the production company. The film is currently in pre-production, we start filming in Feb and I'm sure my role will expand to be on set, artist liaison and more. I also am working as a marketing consultant on the DVD release of Sket. This means I have to come up with ideas of how to company can engage young people and hopefully sell the DVD. This is cool because I get to be creative and come up with ideas but I don't need to sit and do all the intricate paperwork etc that often gets tied to cool ideas. Well, least not yet anyway!
The Glam Collective

TGC is my business with my business partner Lois. The Glam Collective offers experiences makeup artists that are mobile, bringing the luxury to you, getting you ready for an event, wedding or photoshoot. Lois and I are best friends and she is an extremely talented makeup artist who is regional trainer for MAC. When she had her son, we wanted to start a business that meant she could spend more time at home and ultimately make us money! We are still in very early stages of the company, still working out the right prices, what our branding is, who are customers are and things like that. Overall though, we are doing so well for a new business. It's such a great feeling to work with your friend every day on something that you absolutely love! We just hired a stand at a wedding fair and it was such a great success. To take real bookings and money from people we don't know personally made it that much more realistic. It made us feel that we can really do it! We have high hopes for the business and it's my baby right now. Please check it out ladies - The Glam Collective.
There's a few other things going on, but these are the main focus right now. Hopefully this gives you a bit more of an insight into what I do every day.
